Drake Places $1.5 Million Bet on Argentina to Beat Spain in World Cup Final
Canadian rap superstar Drake has made headlines after staking $1.5 million (approximately ₦2.3 billion) on Argentina to defeat Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The award-winning rapper, whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham, revealed the massive wager by posting a screenshot of his betting slip on Instagram ahead of Sunday’s showdown at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
According to the slip, Drake stands to earn more than $5.1 million if Argentina successfully defend their World Cup title by overcoming Spain.
Accompanying the post, the 39-year-old wrote:
“What’s that saying??? Better luck next time…”
The wager has reignited conversations surrounding the famous “Drake Curse,” a long-running superstition among sports fans who believe that teams or athletes publicly backed by the rapper often end up losing.
The myth gained further attention after Drake reportedly lost a $1 million bet on former UFC champion Conor McGregor, who was defeated by Max Holloway. The superstition has become so popular that a dedicated website, TheDrakeCurse.com, tracks the rapper’s betting history and the outcomes of his high-profile sports predictions.
Away from the world of sports betting, Drake has also been active in music. Earlier this year, he surprised fans with the release of three new albums—Iceman, Maid Of Honour, and Habibti—his first major projects since 2023.
The releases were well received, with Iceman becoming Drake’s seventh album to top the UK Albums Chart.
The five-time Grammy Award winner remains one of the biggest names in global music, with chart-topping hits including God’s Plan, One Dance, Passionfruit, and Hold On, We’re Going Home.
Drake has also continued to attract attention for his widely publicized rivalry with fellow American rapper Kendrick Lamar, whose diss track Not Like Us became one of the most talked-about songs in hip-hop.
